Mono‐substituted PPV derivatives were synthesized through the watersoluble or the organic soluble precursor methods and their optical properties were characterized. The EL devices were fabricated with mono‐substituted PPV derivatives as emitting polymers, and ITO and aluminum as a positive and a negative electrode, respectively. Operating voltages of these devices ranged from 10 to 20 V, and emitting peaks were at about 540 ‐ 590 nm depending on the polymers. Photoluminescence of mono‐substituted PPV derivatives were also studied.
