In the present survey the limitations for the industrial application of polymer syntheses are discussed as well as the directions, syntheses may go. As particular examples the living anionic polymerization and the respective ring‐opening polymerization and copolymerization are discussed. Under the aspect of future developments some examples of biotechnological polymerization and particular features of biopolymers are given
