The evolution of polymer science has been astounding. Since the early days when Staudinger, Mark and others pioneered the then‐new field, it has grown enormously thanks to a breathtaking collection of talent. A series of major discoveries has taken place since the 1950s, and the number of practitioners has grown impressively. Polymer science is now deeper and broader, and well poised to advance science and benefit society.
