Emulsion copolymerization reactions which include monomers that have significant solubility in the water phase are described and modeled. The reactions that take place in the aqueous phase are considered as is the influence of water‐soluble comonomers on radical transport out of the monomer‐swollen polymer particles. Experimental characterization of the oligomers formed in the aqueous phase is also a subject of this paper.
