The linear and non‐linear optical (NLO) properties of novel macromolecular materials are described. Solid polyelectrolyte glasses exhibit high refractive indeces and excellent transmission at low dispersion. Polyconjugated macromolecules provide for materials with NLO‐properties interesting for χ (3) ‐processes. The scaling behaviour of χ (3) ∼λ max is demonstrated. Ultrathin layers of hairy‐rod type polymers are excellent objects to study wave‐guide related processes in organic systems.
