New methods to prepare monolayers with defined lateral distribution of the components are described. These methods make use of different principles: (1) H‐type dye aggregates in an OTS‐matrix and fatty acid domains in a NBD‐dye matrix are prepared by the self‐assembling technique. This is demonstrated by fluorescence microscopy and UV/Vis‐spectroscopy. (2) If the support is structured by photolithography, adsorption and desorption occur preferentially on one of the two types of surface. It is shown that by this method dyes can be distributed laterally with an accuracy of better than 0.5 μm.
