Typical emulsifier surface properties such as the CMC, concentration at interface saturation, the free energy of adsorption and micellization, and the efficiency in reducing interfacial tension were determined for different DOWFAX TM surfactants in the presence and absence of electrolyte. The emulsifiers' surface activity was correlated with their performance in the preparation of 50%‐solids 60:40 styrene‐butadiene latexes. The results showed that the latex particle size is dependent on the strength of emulsifier adsorption at the particle interface.
