The contribution of polymer diffusion studies to clarifying the entanglement problem in polymer chain liquids is reviewed. In particular, we present a phenomenological equation for a critical molecular weight M C as a function of the diffusant and matrix molecular weights, respectively, and compare it with recent theories.
