Abstract The use of small‐angle scattering techniques in the study of inhomogeneities and microstructural changes in inorganic materials is reviewed with emphasis on X‐ray scattering. Recent applications of anomalous scattering with synchrotron radiation and kinetic studies in amorphous and crystalline systems are stressed.
