Polyesters derived from substituted β‐propiolactones exhibit a wide variety of physical properties depending upon the number, nature and position of their substituents. Their properties can be changed even more by preparing atactic and isotactic polyesters, and polyesters with intermediate degrees of isotacticity. Moreover, the isotactic polyesters with opposite configurations form stereocomplexes with unique properties.
