Abstract By means of cationic ring‐opening polymerization a wide variety of telechelic polymers can be prepared. After a general description of the chemistry of this kind of polymerization, the introduction of functional end groups by initiation, by end capping and by transfer reactions is described. The following monomers, which have successfully been used to produce telechelics by cationic mechanisms, are discussed: tetrahydrofuran, various epoxides, cyclic acetals and cyclic amines, cyclosiloxanes.
