This paper reviews structure‐property relations in liquid crystalline side group polymers, as investigated by X‐ray scattering of fibres, by small angle X‐ray scattering in solution, by dielectric relaxation measurements and by melt rheology, as well as synthetic ways to “combined liquid crystalline polymers”. The synthesis of liquid crystalline elastomers from side group, main chain and combined liquid crystalline polymers is described. First structure‐property relations are discussed.
