Most union‐free managers recognize that the true costs of unionization are not so much the higher wages or benefits that may flow from collective bargaining, but rather in the restrictive work practices, drain on management resources, time spent dealing with union‐induced issues, and the divisive “us‐them” attitude that can develop when a union is present in the workplace.
