Management sometimes views an organizing campaign among blue‐collar workers as a distinct possibility. The prospect of a loss in a factory is not nearly as disturbing as a union victory in the office. Managers may believe that the survival of the company is at stake if the office side of the fence is unionized. Upper‐level personnel can feel a sense of failure and resignation if the supposedly loyal white‐collar workers vote for a union.
