President‐elect Donald Trump chose strongly antiunion fast‐food executive Andrew Puzder as his nominee for U.S. Secretary of Labor. Puzder is the president and CEO of CKE Restaurants Holdings, the parent company of Carl's Jr. and Hardee's. He opposes a higher federal minimum wage (now $7.25 an hour), paid sick leave, and the Affordable Care Act. He vehemently opposes the efforts of the National Labor Relations Board to make franchise corporations joint employers liable for the actions of franchisees. He also opposes an Obama administration rule that would increase the number of workers eligible for overtime pay.
