Summary: The compound 4‐hydroxycinnamic acid (4HCA), a natural biomonomer, is polymerized by melt polycondensation to yield a liquid‐crystalline biopolymer (P4HCA) with UV reactivity. L929 cells were successfully incubated on P4HCA films at 37 °C.Structure of poly(4‐hydroxycinnamic acid) (P4HCA) and its crossed‐polarizing optical micrograph in the nematic state.
