Using an unpublished result of Tartar about some integrals depending upon a parameter, we give quite elementary proofs of various fixed point theorems and of the fundamental theorems of algebra for complex numbers and quaternions. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
