We use Mather's finite determinacy theory and Baum‐Bott's theorem to give sharp bounds for the Poincaré‐Hopf index of a germ of homolorphic vector field with an isolated zero. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
