Novel polystyrene (PS) materials were prepared through thermally initiated polymerization in the presence of 1,3:2,4‐dibenzylidene‐ D ‐sorbitol (DBS) organogels. The organogels were the result of the formation of DBS nanofibrillar networks. The effects of the DBS amounts on the polymerization rate, molecular weight, swelling ratio, and thermal properties of the PS samples were investigated. The increase in the DBS content increased the polymerization rate and molecular weight. The swelling ratio experiment demonstrated the cross‐linking density of the PS sample increased as the DBS amount was increased. In addition, the glass transition temperature increased with the DBS content. Thermogravimetric analysis results showed the thermal decomposition temperature was not affected by the addition of DBS.
