A new class of ester‐carbonate monomers was prepared by reaction of monomethylcarbonate of bisphenol‐A with tere/isophthaloyl chloride. Self polycondensation of these monomers in presence of titanium tetraisopropoxide as catalyst resulted in the formation of copoly(arylester‐carbonate)s having an ester to carbonate ratio of 2: 1. Copoly(arylester‐carbonate)s rich in either carbonate groups were also prepared by copolymerization of ester‐carbonate monomer with dimethyl terephthalate and the bismethylcarbonate of bisphenol‐A. The polymer structure was established by 1 H NMR and IR spectroscopy. The ordered sequence of estercarbonate groups in the polymer was established by 13 C NMR spectroscopy.
