Cover: Soil is a notoriously difficult system to study corrosion in due to its variability. To date, solution systems and soil samples have been used but there are inherent difficulties with both these systems. A novel agar based system is being developed to replicate soil for corrosion studies, specifically for the study of corrosion along the outside of potable water pipelines. Agar is unique in that both the chemical and physical properties of soil can be simulated in a replicable manner within the system. More detailed information can be found in: A. J. Spark, I. Cole, D.
