The corrosion behavior of 3003 aluminum alloy in different media was investigated by electrochemical approaches and immersion tests. It was shown that the corrosion of aluminum alloy was influenced by the composition of the solution. The results indicated that the nitrite ion (NO 2 − ) acted as a corrosion inhibitor. The addition of sulfate ion (SO 4 2− ) or nitrate ion (NO 3 − ) can weaken this inhibiting effect. Chloride ion (Cl − ) and SO 4 2− can accelerate the corrosion of 3003 aluminum alloy greatly.
