Cover: The picture shows a Zn‐2%Al‐2%Mg hot‐dip galvanised sample corroded for 300 h in a salt spray test according to DIN EN ISO 9227. On the right one can see an unreacted zinc dendrite. In the centre there are the remnants of a ternary zinc, aluminium, MgZn 2 eutectic. There the MgZn 2 phase has been selectively dissolved from the coating. The top of the sample features large compact crystals of simonkolleite (Zn 5 (OH) 8 Cl 2 ∙H 2 O). Despite the relatively strong attack of the metallic coating the steel substrate remains unattacked.
