Cover: Sensitization in stainless steels is associated with precipitation of chromium rich carbides along grain boundaries during the detrimental heat treatments. This phenomenon was also found in automotive exhaust applications. Some commonly used grades were investigated during a research project. The precipitation of chromium carbides were observed with high resolution techniques like SEM and TEM. More detailed information can be found in: M. Yasir, G. Mori, H. Wieser, A. Reller, H. W. Höppel , Study of sensitization and different heating cycles on stainless steels used for automotive exhaust components, Materials and Corrosion 2012 , 63 , 763 .
