New and experienced managers alike often lack the necessary mental maps and skills needed to be collaborative leaders capable of building effective partnerships within and across work teams. The author explains how three structural ingredients (shared goals, interdependence and complementary skills, and accountability) along with three behavioral characteristics (character, commitment, and authentic communication) can produce a multiplier effect that produces the synergy inherent in genuine collaborative partnerships.
