Abstract Career advancements move through stages that need to be managed skillfully. When handled well, transitions offer unique and, in many respects, unmatched growth opportunities for both a company and the leaders involved. When handled poorly, there are considerable downsides for all. In the first part of a two‐part series, the authors explain the ten questions that are critical for successful transitions.
