Many leaders pride themselves on their ability to solve critical business problems. Yet, by assuming they are personally responsible for devising solutions, these managers often engage in behavior that creates powerful road‐blocks to urgently needed improvements. The authors expose the dysfunctional consequences of this manager‐as‐problem‐solver behavior pattern and then show how a different leadership model can help managers make the critical shift from solving business problems to challenging people to deliver real business results .
