Libert, Beck, and Wind believe that we increasingly live in a world of business networks. They write that “businesses’ abilities to create and share intangible assets, such as ideas, software, and relationships that are owned by individuals, has grown exponentially.” To illustrate, think of the value created by companies such as Amazon or Uber. Their term for these businesses is “network orchestrators,” one of four new business models, as determined by a “multiyear, in‐depth study.” “Digital networks,” they write, “give us a chance to reconnect with our most human needs: to connect to each other; to be part of something larger; to bridge the divides that physical distance has put between us.”
