A personal battle with breast cancer led Glaser toward new discoveries about how conversations within organizations can be used for healthy growth of the organization. There are three levels: Level 1—Transactional, Level 2—Positional, and Level 3—Transformational. This highest form goes “beyond telling, selling, and defending.” She ultimately discovered “co‐creating conversations.” This concept, she explains, “is when people think together, define reality together, and take on the shared responsibility for the health of an organization together.” Mastering these levels can lead to the triggering of what Glaser calls “vital instincts,” the mechanism hardwired within each of us for greatness.
