Leaders must recognize the “ripple effect” of what they say and do each day. Su and Wilkins contend that “the more senior you are, the more visible you are, and the higher your performance, the greater the impact of your ripple and the wake that you leave.” Pay attention to such techniques as framing, stories, analogies or metaphors, and bridging (using language that shows you are aware of what people care about, and that you can link their day‐to‐day work with the big picture). In addition, be serious about genuine “open door policies,” as well as 360‐degree feedback on yourself.
