Thomas, Bellin, Jules, and Lynton interviewed 50 C‐level executives from 39 countries on five continents to learn more about the evolution of leadership at top companies. They uncovered four configurations described in more detail in the article: kitchen cabinets, tiger teams, advocates, and operators. Each “represents a pattern of behavior and roles that can be taken on for a specific purpose and period of time.” The interviewees represented such major global players as the home improvement retailers Kingfisher, the hospitality company Four Seasons, the General Electric French subsidiary Converteam, and the Indian conglomerate Tata Group.
