In today's business environment, achieving growth is difficult, but “opportunities do exist for companies with the skill and the courage to find them,” the authors write. Strong leaders challenge how work is done, galvanize a company's teams, model positive change, and get personally involved in the process, while avoiding micromanagement. Based on research at their organization, McKinsey & Company, the authors relate that most change programs fail due to employee resistance, management that doesn't support change, and resource/budget issues. Change requires considerable daily work, “but a well‐designed and well‐executed program is worth what may become years of effort.”
