Wheatley contends that as a global culture, we are essentially lost in an unsatisfying world of “hyper speed, hyper stress, and hyper irrationality.” Yet many may not recognize being lost, because they first deny it is happening. She suggests that leaders must create new maps, which first entails admitting that we are lost, in order to create something new and better. This leads to an ongoing process of experimentation, reflecting and learning, and taking in new information and diverse perspectives. The process “needs to be a collective recognition, not just an announcement by the leader.”
