According to the National Health and Nutritional Examination survey (NHANES) from 2011–12, the prevalence of obesity defined as BMIu003e30 among 20 year or older individuals is 35%1. This is reflected among liver transplant (LT) recipients resulting in a doubling of the prevalence of obesity from 16.8% (Class 1 BMI 30–34=9.4%; Class II BMI 35–39 =5.3% and Class III BMI≥40=2.1%) in 1987–96 to 33% (Class 1 BMI 30–34=21%; Class II BMI 35–39 =9% and Class III BMI≥40=3%) in 2002–2011.2, 3
