This paper presents an overview of the author and others' work on the analysis of bearings and lubricants in electrical environments, and discusses recent advances in the study of the behaviour and response of rolling‐element bearings, hydro‐dynamically lubricated journal and thrust bearings, and lubricants, under the influence of an electric current. Bearings operating in electrical environments undergo specific and complex phenomena that affect bearing life, e. g., through crater formation and lubricant deterioration, and thus have to be studied in particular ways.
