The article by Li et al. proposes a simple, versatile Figure of Merit based on the material damage threshold and the optimal length that balances the Kerr effect and linear loss. It allows efficient, quantitative evaluation of various Kerr nonlinear plasmonic waveguides and gives best parameters for nonlinear optical devices such as wavelength converters.
