The cover picture shows the input IR laser beam converted into a second harmonic beam with the spatial shape of three sets of three Gaussians which make ‘SOS’ in morse ‐ three thin pulses for “S” and three wide flat pulses for “O”. The spatial shape is created on axis in the near field, and filtered from the reference beam spectrally. The process is created in a compact manner after passing through a specially fabricated non linear photonic crystal.
