Composite materials as glass fiber and carbon fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP and CFRP) are among the most promising materials to achieve the demanding goals of lightweight design. In competition with other materials as high‐strength steel or light metals, the market forecast for carbon fiber reinforced materials predicts a continuous growth around ten percent per year as it was achieved in the recent years [1]. This underlines the importance of CFRP in the lightweight material mix. Aerospace and automotive are the major growth drivers in this market. Even though the material costs take a large share for parts made of CFRP, efficient production technologies are in demand.
