The food packaging industry has many applications which can benefit from laser technology. These include tasks such as perforating and slitting paper and plastic films. However, this industry presents challenges in that it is particularly cost sensitive, yet also demands very high process throughput. Furthermore, laser based equipment must sometimes be installed in environments which are less than ideal in terms of available space and ambient vibration.
