This article is the second part of a two‐part series about the history as well as the future of laser technology. In the first part (published in Laser Technik Journal issue 2/2010), the history processes and their perspectives have been discussed as well as the effects on markets and megatrends, thus their societal impact have been displayed. In the following we will focus on the environmental “green” aspects of coherent light.
