We are writing to convey our sentiments with reference to the article by Schuler et al. Although we agree that the authors are possibly the first to have performed transoral robotic surgery on a T2 squamous carcinoma of the oropharynx using the Flex System (Medrobotics Corp., Raynham, MA) as described in their article published in your esteemed journal, we would like to clarify that the first use of such a computer-assisted system (i.e., Flex System) was performed at our institution on June 16, 2014 on two benign lesions. Our case has also been submitted for publication. We have proof both from the manufacturer and distributor of the system (Document 1) as well as Web-based press releases (Documents 2–5) confirming this. Our intention, therefore, is to merely correct the inaccuracy of the description of the first use of this system by Schuler et al. Below are the Internet locations for the documents attesting to our institution’s work in this regard.
