Robotic console time for the first resection was 40 minutes and 54 minutes for the second TORS. The traditional approaches to the parapharyngeal space allow for a maximum of two-handed surgery within the narrow operative field. TORS affords an approach in which the retraction/dissection carried out by the patient side assistant translates into four-handed surgery. Although the majority of dissection in the parapharyngeal space is carried out bluntly, the patient side assistant provides the exposure and tension required for precise electrocautery. Additionally the magnified view also allows for placement of surgical clips for hemostasis.
