The kinetics of the electrophilic substitution of several trialkyltin chlorides by iodine monochloride are presented. Rate constants have been determined at four different temperatures and the activation parameters A, E a , and Δ S ° = are calculated. A mechanism is proposed involving charge‐transfer as the driving force for the substitution. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
