Using a relative rate method, rate constants for the gas‐phase reactions of the OH radical with 1‐ and 2‐propyl nitrate, 1‐ and 2‐butyl nitrate and 1‐nitrobutane have been determined in the presence of one atmosphere of air at 298 ± 2 K. Using rate constants for the reactions of the OH radical with propane and cyclohexane of 1.15 × 10 −12 and 7.49 × 10 −12 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1 , respectively, following rate constants (in units of 10 −12 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1 ) were obtained: 1‐propyl nitrate, 0.62; 2‐propyl nitrate, 0.41; 1‐butyl nitrate, 1.78; 2‐butyl nitrate, 0.93; and 1‐nitrobutane, 1.35. These rate constants are compared and discussed with the literature data.
