The effect of copper (II) and chloride ions on the manganese (II) catalyzed iodate‐peroxide reaction has been examined with reference to the hydrogen peroxide‐iodic acid‐manganese (II)‐organic species oscillatory reaction. The observations are considered to provide evidence for iodine dioxide as the key intermediate in the manganese (II) catalyzed reaction. Kinetic data for the copper (II) catalyzed reaction are reported.
