The production of ClOO and ClO radicals following the flash photolysis of chlorine + oxygen mixtures has been studied. For the mechanismthe following kinetic parameters were measured: k 3 K = 1.3 × 10 10 l 2 /mol 2 ·sec; k 2 / k 3 = 17; and k 3 /ϵ(ClOO; 250 nm) = 9.7 × 10 5 cm/sec. Then k 3 = 5.9 × 10 9 l/mol·sec, k 2 = 1.0 × 10 11 l/mol·sec, and ϵ(ClOO; 250 nm) = 6.1 × 10 3 l/mol·cm. From limits established for the equilibrium constant K , Δ H ° f (ClOO) = 94 ± 2 kJ/mol.
