As previous studies indicate, some cases of malignant melanoma are clearly hormonally dependent as demonstrated by their stimulation by pregnancy and regression following delivery. A case of melanoma initiated during pregnancy and stimulated by a subsequent pregnancy was studied with biochemical receptor studies before and after endocrine manipulation. The negative steriod receptor studies obtained late in the patient's disease at time of endocrine manipulation predicted the lack of response. Results of this study indicate investigations are needed to define the relationship between malignant melanoma and pregnancy.
