Abstract The present study dearly demonstrates that neurofibromas and neurofibrosarcomas are devoid of cytosol receptor for steroid. These observations are in sharp contrast to the significant incidence of receptors in soft tissue and osseous sarcomas and raise doubts that steroids exert a direct effect on the growth of these tumors.
