Serum fucose determinations were performed on 19 patients with “stable” or “inactive” malignancies, 33 patients with “active” malignancies, and 14 “normals.” A significant difference in the values between “normal” and “stable” patients and those with “active” cancer is shown. A role for this relatively simple serological test for diagnosing and following metastatic cancer is suggested.
