Certain benign disorders are easily misinterpreted on histological examination as being malignant and thus often present quite a taxing challenge to the surgical pathologist. Such entities are being recognized and described with increasing frequency and more reliable histologic diagnostic criteria are being formulated in many instances. The purpose of this review is to list the most outstanding and especially the more recently discovered examples of these states and to draw attention to features of known diagnostic value. A list of selected references is provided.
